Trio charged with murder of Umno branch chief KOTA TINGGI: Three unemployed men were charged in a magistrate’s court here with the murder of Felda Semenchu Wanita Umno branch chief Zalifah Jamaluddin. Hairulnizam Salleh, 25, Mazlan Kassim, 21, and Amirul Syahid, 20, allegedly committed the murder at the victim’s house in No. 36, Blok 2, Felda Semenchu, at 12.20pm on Feb 28. All three nodded their heads after the charge was read to them in front of magistrate Mazana Sinin. The accused were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction. No plea was recorded and Mazana set April 22 for the mention of the case pending the forensics report. DPP Suhaila Shafi’uddin prosecuted while the accused were not represented. It was recently reported that police arrested seven drug addicts believed to be involved in the murder-cum-robbery of Zalifah. Her son, who went to her home on the day of the incident, found the 68-year-old victim, who owned several businesses and lived alone in Felda Semenchu, sprawled on the floor of her bedroom.
